Our health care system is ridiculous - Immigration is just as bad
Wouldn't it be nice to just go with your Social Security Services card (with your picture and signature like a credit card) to any Dr. you like who will check your health and give you a prescription that you can take to any pharmacy and don't have to pay a nickel since you already had a deduction from your salary? - Our health services are diseminated in counties' and cities' clinics, emergency locations, medicare, medicaid, private hospitals and community hospitals, HMOs etc, etc, etc. All public health services should be unified under one national institution like Social Security Services (SSS) as a unique payer, that will be in charge of collecting say 7% contributions deducted from everyone's salaries (with no limits on earnings) and matched by another 7% from employers. Worker's compensation would be eliminated since the new system will take care of the injured and the employer will continue paying part of his/her salary or a fix amount like the one that actually workers comp pays. An employer is in a better position to check that his/her employee is not faking and accident. The new SSS as a unique payer will cover only medical services, prescriptions and retirement. Many doctors can become independent and provide helthcare from their own home-office or commercial location because they can get paid by the new system according to a payment schedule and co-payments if they feel necessary to charge their patients provided they will accept it. Every city or at least every county should receive federal help to build a hospital to serve its citizens. Of course, private citizens, group of doctors or corporations can provide medical services if they wish to invest in this industry (Free country - free enterprise right?) If you work, you get free healtcare and retirement. If you don't work, you get only welfare which will be handled by a different institution that will also serve only American citizens and legal residents. If you are illegal, you don't get welfare and no education. If you employ illegals, you'll get severely fined. If you are homeless, the new welfare program will place you to work in the fields to pick-up crops where you'll get the minimum salary plus shelter. You can do that job for all the time you want across America, consequently receiving healthcare and retirement just like any other worker because you and your employer will be contributing to SSS. If you still don't want to work, you can ask for help from charity institutions and preachers that can use their donations for the real purpose of helping our needy Americans and not to line their pockets with big incomes that in many cases amount to many millions for quite a few individuals that use the media asking parishioners just to pray.
Of course legal changes are in order:
-No lobbying that involves political donations. This practice must be outlawed because it is bribery. Big penalties placed for those politicians that receive money from any kind of lobbyist.
-No lawsuits against the new SSS or doctors or any individual or institution providing health services.
This shouldn't include manufacturers of equipment and supplies.
-New law to force the media to give equal free space to politicians in their jurisdictions at times when people watch TV or listen to radio.
-Prohibit the media to recommend candidates or influence people on whom to vote for, and allow them only to give impartial information about the elections, at least three months before the elctions
-No polls about politics of any kind, at least three months before elections.
-Regulate the media in order to reduce those media monsters that give excessive power to just a few.
-Allow free imports of medicines and supplies except perhaps for modest import duties.
-No citizenship for newborns of illegals or tourists.
-An Electoral Power who's decisions are final. No intervention af any Court.
NO MORE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE'S BASIC NEEDS.

Darwin vs Intelligent Design (ID)
Mood:  cool
In my ex-country in South America where a large percentage of people are Catholics, we do not bother about teaching religion in public schools, in fact is not allowed. Of course Catholic, Protestants, Jewish, etc practice their own religions in their schools, besides teaching Darwin's evolution theory.
Although, in the last year of high school a course called Apologetics is taught, which is the study of all main religions and some small ones around the world where teachers explain the basics of each religion, their beliefs , practices, etc. Why is this not done here in America, and stop this ridiculous situation of Darwin vs God? Why are we trying to politicize the classroom? We already have to much politics in our schools. I decided to write about this issue after reading a small article in the November issue of Popular Science magazine: "Brad Williamson, a High School Biology teacher mentioned kids saying things like my grandpa wasn't a monkey and Parents saying my child can't be in class during any discussion of evolution". Teachers have a problem says PS, ID can't be scientifically tested, testing and retesting hypothesis are the bedrock of science.
Fossils had been found that are proof of mutations through the ages that agrees time and again with Darwin theories while ID is only a religious belief that can't be tested. Religious fundamentalists should stop their sordid fight against science that confuses our kids' minds.

We have to withdraw from Iraq
Mood:  sad
9/11 killed almost 3,000 Americans. The war in Iraq almost killed 2,000 already. Soon we will reach the same number of dead soldiers and civilian Americans plus well over a 100,000 Iraqis or maybe hundreds of thousands around the world including children. All this is so wrong, we must get out of this terrible disaster.
America is practically alone in this mess. Our military occupation of Iraq is not making us safer, it's inflaming Muslims and increasing terrorism around the world. It seems that the only answer to win is to send more troops and reinstate the draft, which is unacceptable and useless because we can't defeat millions of religious fanatics. Are we becoming also some kind of religious fanatics too, like Pastor Pat Robertson who just said that murder is OK? Fanaticism: Things going bad...let us increase our efforts. Instead let us face the truth, this is another Vietnam. How many more years do we have to fight and how many more have to die. How many more maimed, blinded or mentally ill. We have to stop being Imperialists, we must conquer by offering peace to gain the respect of the world.
We must accept the help of France, Germany, Russia and other important Countries to negociate the end of this stupid war with all Iraqi factions involved. And yes, we must support our troops, bring them back home.

STOP THE CORRUPTION
Mood:  irritated
Topic: Lobbying
LOBBYING IS JUST FINE
MONEY INVOLVED IS BRIBERY

I really think the main problems we have in America are all those special interests corporations and institutions, giving money to Congressmen to be reelected. Of course, with the purpose of getting paid with favors in return for their money.

A law must be enacted to put an end to the bribery that keeps corruption in all government institutions. The media by this law should provide, at no charge, equal time to candidates for office anywhere across America. In other words, real democracy.

The media can offer fair interviews to candidates and not allow to give opinions or make surveys on any candidates to influence the voters or run the risk to be fined or be forbidden to broadcast politics in case of reoccurance.

Of course, all candidates can use all the time they want online, and also use the U.S. Mail system. Incumbents should not be allowed to use our tax monies to advertise themselves or their achievements in office because it would be an advantage over those new candidates.

Finally, and "electoral power" should be created and their decisions should be final without any intervention of Courts.

If you reader have the power or energy to pursue this ideas, form a group of decent people to do away with the corruption in our Federal, State and Municipal governments.
